In 1947, recently retired underwater Navy instructor Newton Perry , opened a small roadside attraction in Weeki Wachee Springs, Florida. This wasn't your ordinary roadside stand with fruits, vegetables, and novelties. Perry opened an underwater theatre! For nearly 60 years, over 300 mermaids have been the unique focal point of Weeki Wachee Springs. Carefully trained, completely enthusiastic, and a delight to watch, these mermaids put Weeki Wachi on the map! It was indeed, the only theme park with live mermaids. Readers will enjoy a plethora of photographs, painting a picture of what life looked and felt like from a mermaid's perspective!
